Tear down Karak and Gombak toll plazas to ease congestion, says MP

KUALA LUMPUR: The Karak and Gombak toll plazas should be torn down, says Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said the traffic congestion there reflected a failure on the part of the authorities and highway operators.

“The congestion is bad and it happens all over the country especially at toll plazas,” he said during his speech on the motion of thanks on the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (March 4).

“On the East Coast Expressway we have four toll plazas where users have to stop, namely (at) Gombak, Karak and Bentong as well as the exit.”

He said the Gombak and Karak plazas were not needed, as they only added to the congestion.

Citing his recent journey from Kota Baru, he said the concessionaire's workers were carrying out roadworks during peak hours.

He urged the government to make sure that such roadworks are not done during peak periods.
