Taib Mahmud gave selflessly to Sarawak and nation, says Hishammuddin


PETALING JAYA: The passing of former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud is a great loss to the country, especially for the state of Sarawak, says Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

The Sembrong MP also posted on his social media on Wednesday (Feb 21) several photos previously taken with Abdul Taib.

“So many services, contributions and efforts were contributed by the late Allahyarham, especially during his tenure as Chief Minister and Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak.

“It was very sad for my family when we received the news of Abdul Taib passing away early this morning.

“My deepest condolences to all his family members, close friends and the people of Sarawak. Let us all pray that his soul is always showered with the mercy of Allah SWT. Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin. Al Fatihah,” he said.

Abdul Taib, 87, passed away at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 4.40am.

Funeral prayers are being carried out for Abdul Taib at the main prayer hall of the national mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

He will be laid to rest at the family burial ground at his private residence in Demak Jaya, Sarawak after a state funeral at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex in Kuching on Thursday (Feb 22).
