Saifuddin: Cops to bring order to ‘Wild West’ Julau

KUALA LUMPUR: Allegations of criminal elements existing in Julau, Sarawak, will be immediately looked into, says the Home Minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he was briefed directly on the matter by Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng, who said gangsters have been making life miserable for locals with their illegal activities.

“He (Sng) explained the situation to me and I immediately shared this with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

“The Julau OCPD has also issued a statement that arrests have been made and investigations are under way,” Saifuddin told reporters after visiting the General Operations Force central brigade headquarters in Cheras here yesterday.

Also present were the IGP, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and Bukit Aman Logistics Department director Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan.

Saifuddin Nasution said he believes the police will address the issue immediately.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Sng had called on Bukit Aman to step in to restore law and order to the “once peaceful Julau and Pakan districts before they turn into the Wild West”.

The lawmaker claimed that over the course of a year, the introduction of online gaming has carved up Sarawak’s cities and towns into various districts controlled by gangsters from different groups.
