Melaka school ushers in CNY with Muhibbah-themed video


MELAKA: All-girls' school SK (P) Methodist 1 here has stepped up to represent Melaka in a nationwide video contest while celebrating Chinese New Year in the spirit of Muhibbah.

The teachers and pupils of the school in Jalan Tengkera here produced the three-minute, 22-second video greeting one another in conjunction with the Year of the Dragon.

Video production teacher-in-charge Ku May Fong said they had been rehearsing for the shoot since December.

"We wanted to take part in a national video competition in conjunction with the Chinese New Year and worked together as one big family in the hope of winning the contest," she said in an interview on Monday (Jan 29).

Ku said the video was shot by fellow teacher Shahmi Kipul and uploaded on YouTube on Saturday (Jan 27).

"We were told that my school was the only national-type school in the state that entered the competition," she said.

Ku said pupils from Years Four to Six took part in the video shoot and all 28 teachers as well as four trainee teachers participated as well.

She added that the school had an enrolment of 259 pupils of various backgrounds and ethnicities.

"Melaka is also a melting pot of race, religion and culture," she added.

In the video, the teachers and pupils can be seen dancing to Chinese New Year tunes and hugging one another as well as putting up festive decorations in the school.
