JASIN: Melaka Halal Hub 1.0 has attracted RM467mil in investments as of March this year, said Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Melaka Chief Minister described the milestone achievement as proof of the state’s success in developing the halal industry as a key economic growth sector.

He said the hub, developed since 2000 on a 54.23ha site, has helped strengthen small and medium enterprises while drawing strong investor interest.

“Nearly 97% of the area has been taken up, proving that Melaka is among the most progressive states in implementing the national halal agenda.

"This success has also enabled the state to receive the World Halal Excellence Award organised by Halal Development Corporation Berhad,” he said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for Melaka Halal Hub 2.0 at the Serkam industrial area here on Friday (April 17).

Also present were PDG Development Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Seri Gwee Yew Kiat and Halal Development Corporation Berhad chief financial officer Ainul Azman Ainul Jamal.

Ab Rauf said the achievement has laid a strong foundation for the development of Melaka Halal Hub 2.0, which is expected to widen the state’s halal industry potential.

He said the groundbreaking ceremony carried significant meaning for the state’s direction and reflected the government’s continued commitment to strengthening the halal economic development agenda.

“The halal industry is no longer a peripheral sector, but a main engine of economic growth and is expanding globally across sectors such as food, finance, pharmaceuticals, tourism and lifestyle,” he added.
