Mother of man killed in motorcycle accident receives Socso pension scheme

MELAKA: The family of 21-year-old Mohd Haiqal Iman Mohd Shahruddin, who was killed when his motorcycle plunged into an under construction drainage site at Bukit Katil on Jan 4, received compensation under the Social Security Organisation (Socso)'s Survivor Pension Scheme.

The deceased mother, Lenny Mariana Imbron, 40, was presented with a RM2,000 cheque during the visit by Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem to their victim’s home in Taman Saujana Indah, in Ayer Keroh here.

Ngwe said that the victim worked in a convenience shop in Bukit Beruang here and was the breadwinner for his family after his father passed away last Nov 26.

“He was also the only child and I decided to visit his mother together with the Sosco Prihatin Squad, to present the benefit cheque,”he said on Friday (Jan 12).

Ngwe said Mohd Haiqal had made Socso contributions and his mother will receive a pension of RM332.50 per month for life.

The victim was killed when his motorcycle plunged into the drainage site together with two other motorcyclists after safety barriers placed by contractors were removed.

The three motorcyclists were passing through the worksite of the flood mitigation project at the traffic junction when the freak incident occurred at 6.30am on Jan 4.

The two injured were identified as Mohd Zaim Bahrin, 31, from Alor Gajah and Chong Min Yang, 57, from Taman Kerjasama, Bukit Beruang here.

Mohd Zaim sustained head injuries and fractured his left leg while Chong suffered injuries on both his legs after their machines plunged deep into the drainage.

The three were on their way to from Bukit Katil to Bukit Beruang without realising that part of the stretch was closed due to the absence of safety barriers to warn them.
