ALOR SETAR: A rubber tapper was stunned when he came face to face with a 5m python swallowing a wild boar at his farm in Kampung Charok Bakong in Baling.
Baling Civil Defence Force district officer Leftenan (PA) Mohd Faizol Aziz said the man, in his 40s, only realised the presence of the reptile at his farm around lunchtime yesterday.
“We sent a team to the house after we received a distress call at 12.43pm,” he said.
Mohd Faizol said his men managed to catch the 40kg snake after a 25-minute struggle.
“We brought the snake to our office and will be handing it over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan),” he said.
Mohd Faizol advised the public to keep a close watch on the surrounding areas of their homes, especially bushes, for the presence of snakes and other dangerous animals.
The reticulated python is usually found in South-East Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and cities, causing conflict with humans.
The species is one of the world’s largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
