Covid-19 cases under control, says Health Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Covid-19 cases in the country are under control with only 0.5% patients admitted at the hospital and death rate at 0.08%.

The Health Ministry said this means the rates for admission and death both were low for the Epidemic Week ME-51 (Dec 17-23) with most cases being mild and no need for treatment.

"Until now there were no new variants detected in Malaysia. The present variants were still Omicron, with sub-variants being XBB.1.16, XBB.1.5, EG.5 including JN.1," said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in a statement on Friday (Dec 29).

He said the Omicron sub-variant which was presently viral did not severely impact patients.

"Covid-19 virus will be with us, same as other respiratory viruses such as influenza and people are advised to cultivate a healthy lifestyle during times when there is an increase in contagious viruses.

The Health Ministry will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and the variants from time to time, added Dzulkefly.
