Covid-19 cases in Johor more than tripled in week 51, says Health Exco

JOHOR BARU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Johor has continued to rise with a 260% week-on-week increase, says state exco Ling Tian Soon.

The Johor health and unity committee chairman said 2,423 positive cases were reported in Week 51 (from Dec 17 until Dec 23), a significant jump from 673 cases recorded the week before.

“There are currently 123 Covid-19 hospitalisations in Johor where three patients receive treatment in the intensive care unit.

“There was also one Covid-19 death recorded in the same week,” Ling said in his weekly update on Monday (Dec 25).

He added that the district with the highest number of reported cases was Batu Pahat, followed by Kulai, Johor Baru, Kulai, Muar, Tangkak and Kluang.

He also said that the average number of Covid-19 cases in Week 51 was 8.44 for every 100,000 residents.

Previously, he reportedly said there was almost a twentyfold increase in reported Covid-19 cases in the state from Week 48 to Week 50.

Week 48 had 34 positive cases, and the numbers shot up to 673 cases in Week 50 (starting Dec 16).
