Stop making 'racially tinged' statements, Umno Youth chief cautions DAP

MELAKA: Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has cautioned DAP leaders to mince their words when issuing "racially tinged" statements.

He said statements like a "non-Malay prime minister" and to re-introduce the local elections in Kuala Lumpur made by DAP leaders could cause disharmony among Malaysians.

"The statements are unnecessary as they could cause uneasiness and jeopardise the relationship as well as understanding fostered between Malaysians of various ethnicities," he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 18).

Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also a Melaka executive council member, said if local elections were held, its representatives could easily win in Chinese-majority cities and there would be an imbalance in representation in the lineups.

He said Umno Youth would not compromise on matters relating to Islam, Malays and the institutions of Malay Rulers.

Dr Muhamad Akmal reminded DAP leaders that the current unity government was not a DAP-led administration but was formed with the participation of Umno.

"Hence, we will not agree to all that DAP suggests although we sit in the same (federal) government," he added.
