Cabinet reshuffle: Sarawak's Abang Johari says new energy portfolio suits Fadillah

KUCHING: The appointment of Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as the new Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister augurs well for Malaysia's green future, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Sarawak Premier said it was appropriate in view of the state's emphasis on renewable energy.

"Thank you to the Prime Minister for giving 'Energy' to Fadilllah.

"It is fitting for him to realign energy policies to position Malaysia as a green hub in the region," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 12).

In the Cabinet reshuffle announced by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier Tuesday, Fadillah was retained AS Deputy Prime Minister and was named the new Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister.

The new ministry was split from the former natural resources, environment and climate change ministry.

Fadillah was also tasked to oversee matters related to Sabah and Sarawak.

He was the plantation and commodities minister previously.
