Star Education Fair 2023: Detailed insight into education vital when pursuing career


GEORGE TOWN: Detailed insight into education is what one needs when pursuing a career path, here to help you is the ongoing Star Education Fair 2023.

The fair held at Setia Spice Convention Centre on Sunday (Dec 10) has been the go-to fair for one's tertiary education needs.

With talks, one-on-one interactions and exciting offers, the fair has something for everyone, even if you are still unsure about your field of choice.

Talks include "Engineering for Good: Be a Hero, Change the World!" by UTP's civil engineering programme leader (undergraduate), Dr Mohamed Mubarak Abdul Wahab, for those inclined to pursue the course.

Sharing insight into the digital world, Disted College will highlight "Navigating the Digital Transformation Landscape: Shaping Future Careers" by its Sustainable Tourism president, professor Dr Vikneswaran Nair, at 2pm.

This is followed by an introduction to mass communication and digital media conducted by lecturer Dr Rafidahtul Abdul Rahim from INTI International University & Colleges at 2.30pm.

Adding to the mix of all things education is a talk by University Masterclass on "How to walk, talk and write your way into your dream university" by its founder and lecturer Marissa Dinar at 4pm.

The education fair boasts 60 booths with 30 educators under one roof.

Earlier at the talk conducted by Peninsula College, its programme leader and lecturer Tan Kee Oon shared the in-demand career paths mainly involving technology.

"Jobs in data science, digital marketing, cybersecurity, human resource management, business analytics and artificial intelligence are the top career paths in 2023.

"Most of them are related to computer science and industry 4.0.

"Most things in life are "smart" from one's watch to their home and now even cars which involve technology.

"While many things are now electronic, including monetary transactions, which is why cybersecurity is needed," Tan added.

He then highlighted the need for soft skills when pursuing computer science, including communication, creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, time management and collaboration skills.

He said their programmes include diplomas and degrees in the relevant fields.

The Star Education Fair 2023 is held alongside the myStar Job Fair 2023 at the convention centre this weekend from 11am to 7pm, ending Sunday (Dec 10).
