Isham Jalil clueless over status in Umno after sacking

PETALING JAYA: Isham Jalil (pic) will wait to be officially informed of his sacking from Umno before deciding his next course of action.

Isham said for now, he remains in the dark over his supposed sacking as he has not received any official notification from the party.

Asked if he would seek an explanation on his status in Umno, he said: “I will wait for the letter first before I decide on anything.

“What I do know is that they have removed me from the Umno supreme council WhatsApp group chat.”

Several supreme council leaders, who attended the meeting on Wednesday night, confirmed that Isham was sacked from the Umno supreme council and as a party member with immediate effect.

“Yes (Isham was sacked). But don’t quote my name,” said a leader who refused to be identified.Other leaders refused to go on record to confirm this.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki when contacted declined to confirm or deny the news, saying that the party would address the matter through a press statement, although he did not indicate when the statement would be issued.

Jeram state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir took to Facebook to say that Isham’s sacking sent out a message that Umno would not tolerate attempts to divide the party.

“The sacking of Isham will also show that Umno will not compromise with anyone trying to split the party and also undermine harmony among members.

“This is also a decision that is awaited by Isham himself. It seems that he purposely wants to be sacked from the party by issuing statements that are not in line with Umno’s aspirations,” said Mohd Zaidy.

On Wednesday, speculation was rife that Isham was sacked following criticisms against Umno’s decision to work with DAP.Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that Isham should attend the supreme council meeting to air his views to the party leadership in person.

According to Ahmad Zahid, Isham had missed three meetings.

However, Isham said he would not attend the meeting as a sign of protest against Umno’s decision to work with DAP.
