Police report lodged against man who offered bounty to assassinate PM on TikTok


PUTRAJAYA: A police report was lodged against an individual who uploaded a TikTok video in which he offered a RM5mil bounty to anyone who could assassinate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The report was lodged by Mohamad Shazrin Ezam Mohd Saidi at the Putrajaya Precint 7 police station on Sunday (Nov 26).

In the now-deleted video, a man was seen holding a child while issuing a RM5mil bounty to whoever was willing to assassinate the prime minister and his Cabinet ministers.

Angkatan Muda Keadilan deputy chief and political secretary to the Finance Minister, Kamil Munim said PKR’s youth wing had enlisted one of the members from the Putrajaya branch to file the report.

He said the matter came into the attention of the PKR youth wing on Sunday morning.

As the party’s congress were underway, he said the report was lodged as the nearest police station.

"Lately, we have seen a lot of comments that are threats, not just in terms of security but also related to certain issues that touches on the sensitivities of race and religion," he said at a press conference at the sidelines of the PKR congress here on Sunday.

He said if immediate action was not taken on such issues, it might lead to irresponsible statements being made which could could be radical and extreme in nature.

He said such videos would be detrimental for the country.

"Hence we ask the police to immediately investigate and take the necessary action on this user and other similar users," he said.

He added that there are a lot of videos doing the rounds which are fuelled by hatred.
