Loke won't sue Siti Mastura, says 'cousin' comment not insulting

GEORGE TOWN: Anthony Loke says he will not sue Dr Siti Mastura Mohamad for claiming he is Lim Guan Eng's cousin as it does not paint him in a bad light.

"She said that I am Guan Eng's cousin, which carries no negative connotation," said the DAP secretary-general.

"I told him (Guan Eng) that I do not want to sue the Kepala Batas MP as I do not consider her statement defamatory.

"We are not related but I do not take it as an insult," he said during his speech at the DAP state convention 2023 held at Komtar here on Sunday (Nov 19)

However, Loke said Guan Eng would be pursuing legal action as Siti Mastura had claimed that he and his father Lim Kit Siang were related to former Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng.

"Their case differs as she claimed they are related to a communist," he said.

On Nov 14, Siti Mastura was summoned by the police to give her statement over her claims that Guan Eng had family ties with the late Chin Peng.

Her lawyer Ahmad Amzar Ahmad Azlan said that the police asked her about 10 questions.

During a campaign speech recently, Siti Mastura linked Guan Eng and his wife to other DAP leaders, such as Loke, Teresa Kok, Nga Kor Ming and Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.

She claimed that DAP supremo Kit Siang was a cousin of former Singapore prime minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew.
