Bersatu AGM will mark party's resurgence, says information chief

PETALING JAYA: The Bersatu general assembly is where the party will recover and rebuild itself for a more stable and harmonious future, says Mahathir Mohd Rais.

The Federal Territories Bersatu information chief said the assembly comes at a critical time for the party as it faces a crisis after the defection of several MPs.

"This assembly will not just discuss the usual agenda but reaffirm the collective commitment of Bersatu members to the party's values and support for the leadership of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin," he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 18).

He added that the assembly would focus on strengthening the structure and principles of Bersatu, which includes reaffirming core values such as the importance of religion, race and nation and rejecting any form of thinking or action that prioritises personal gain and harms the party.

"The assembly is expected to be a turning point for Bersatu, not only to recover from the crisis it faces but also to rebuild its strength for a more stable and harmonious political future in Malaysia," he said.

The Bersatu general assembly will take place from Nov 23 to 25 at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.

Four Bersatu MPs – Datuk Iskandar Dzukarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli) – previously announced that they were supporting the government to access constituency development funds.
