KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 61-year-old woman, who was reported missing by her family earlier in the same day, was found floating at Likas Bay here on Wednesday (Nov 15).

Authorities pulled out the victim’s body from the sea after a child who was at the beach with family, spotted her in the waters.

"The witness interviewed said that the child thought it was a mannequin and after realising it was an unconscious woman floating, the police were called in and came around 3.32pm.

"The deceased is believed to be related to the missing person case reported at Luyang police station earlier during the day, where the son realised the mother’s disappearance from their house at 6.30am.

"The victim’s son found the car belonging to the victim at 1.30pm parked along Likas Bay side of the road, as well as a towel identified to belong to her at a rock near the beach.

"Investigations at the scene found no criminal elements relating to the death and the case has been classified as sudden death," said KK acting OCPD Superintendent Kalsom Idris.
