( November 09, 2022 ) — LIM BENG TATT/The Star.

IPOH: The joint secretariat of MIC and Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia will unite the Indian community in Barisan Nasional, says Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran.

The Makkal Sakti president said the cooperation would make the unity government stronger.

“Our country cannot afford to take any more ‘cracks’. Barisan used to be a strong force, but it is getting weaker.

“Our party and MIC now share the same goal, which is to unite the Indian community under the same umbrella,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Pulangkan Datuk Seri Najib’ event at the Red Crescent Hall Ipoh on Saturday (Oct 14).

The joint secretariat, named MIC-Makkal Sakti Secretariat for Indian Community Development, was set up on Oct 9 to coordinate strategies and action plans when dealing with issues concerning the community.

Thanenthiran said grassroots members of both parties welcome the cooperation.

He said MIC has been around for nearly 77 years, while Makkal Sakti started some 15 years ago.

“Just recently, I went to Kedah for the MIC general meeting, which our party was invited to attend for the very first time.

“I was also in Penang yesterday (Oct 13) on the invitation of MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran to explain to his members about the secretariat.

“We hope the secretariat will unite and make the Indian community in the country stronger,” he added.

It was reported the secretariat will set up two committees - the Steering Committee and the Technical Committee - to help the Indian community.
