Ex-banker Roger Ng has arrived in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng has arrived in Malaysia to assist in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal investigations.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that Ng arrived in Malaysia at about midnight.

"He already arrived in Malaysia, and he is under police custody.

"However, I cannot divulge more details on the matter for security reasons," he said when contacted on Sunday (Oct 8).

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said Ng would arrive in Malaysia on Sunday, and added that the Government's priority is to ensure the return of all assets linked to the case.

Saifuddin Nasution said Ng had been allowed to attend trial in the United States, where he had been convicted but had not yet started serving his jail term.

"We have not yet completed (investigation). So, in this case, we notified the United States Department of Justice through the Attorney-General’s Chambers that, according to an agreement, we can get him back once the trial there is completed.

"So, the DOJ has agreed to repatriate him for the authorities in Malaysia to continue investigations into 1MDB or Goldman Sachs,” he said.
