Cops to call in rapper, influencer over Ebit Lew's slander claim

SHAH ALAM: An Indonesian social media influencer and a local rapper will be called in to assist police over an alleged video that slandered celebrity preacher Ebit Lew.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said police had just received the order to investigate the case.

"We have classified the case under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for defamation and misuse of networking facilities respectively," she told reporters on Tuesday (Sept 19).

When asked if rapper Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, and the Indonesian influencer would be called in for questioning, DCP Sasikala said both would be contacted soon.

"We need statements from them to complete our investigations," she said.

Recently, an Indonesian social media influencer alleged that Lew had behaved inappropriately with her.

Lew had earlier provided the Indonesian influencer with financial assistance in June.

Last week, it was reported that rapper-activist Caprice said in an Instagram post he had interviewed the influencer and would upload the video to YouTube.

Lew lodged a report at 2.17am on Monday (Sept 18) alleging that he had been slandered in a video that was circulated on social media.

Subang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Fairus Jaafar was quoted as saying that the video in question garnered over 225,000 views, with 2,600 likes and 2,800 comments.

"The public is advised not to speculate on the video that has been making the rounds on social media," he said.
