Teenager drowned while swimming with friends in Sungai Paya Bakau


JOHOR BARU: A 13-year-old drowned after swimming in a river with his friends in Sungai Paya Bakau, Felda Sungai Mas, Bandar Penawar.

Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Abd Rahim Abd Rani said the incident occurred at 10.12am on Saturday (Sept 16).

"The public witnessed the incident, and the body had been recovered before the rescue team arrived.

"The victim was later pronounced dead at the location by the medical team," he said in a statement.

The body of the victim, identified as Muhammad Izwan Shah Nazeri, was then handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the police received the report regarding the incident at 10.25am, and the case is classified as a sudden death.
