Sabah local authorities must draw up strategic plans to boost service to community, says Deputy CM

KOTA KINABALU: Local authorities must put in place their strategic plans for the respective districts in efforts to boost their delivery to the community, says Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

The Sabah Deputy Chief Minister said such strategic plans were necessary for each local authority as it allows them to deliver proper services and meet the expectations of the people.

"Local authorities must focus on the organisation of their workflow in particular to further increase their effectiveness in delivering services and making it more competitive," he said at the annual Sabah Local Government conference here.

"It is important for the local government to create advantages for their districts and focus on the needs of their respective areas," he said.

"Apart from that, it is important that local authorities focus on development plans that are in line with sustainable environmental requirements," said Dr Gunsalam, who is state Local Government and Housing Minister.

He said that the preparation of a strategic plan for the development and management of the district should set the direction of the respective local authorities.

Dr Gunsalam also said that procurement management and daily administration should be carried out with integrity and transparency.

"An Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) must be made by every local authority in the state.

"With this approach, it is not impossible that the local authority in the state will be able to provide the best services for the local community," he added.

He urged the local authorities not to take a laid-back attitude and focus on the strategic plans of their areas.
