State polls: Umno to compile post-mortem findings on poor performance


BANGI: Umno will gather all its post-mortem findings on the party's poor performance during the recent state elections, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Post-mortems at the state and wing levels have been carried out to identify the issues faced by the party, said the Umno vice-president.

“Umno and Barisan Nasional’s focus now is on helping Pakatan Harapan candidates in the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats for the upcoming by-elections,” the Higher Education Minister told reporters after launching the “Perdana Madani” debate held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here today (Aug 21).

Umno, which represents Barisan, won only 19 out of the 108 state assembly seats it contested in the the elections in the six states - Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan - on Aug 12.

The 2023 Perdana Madani debate, held by the Higher Education Ministry in collaboration with UKM, was aimed at further promoting the idea of Malaysia Madani, which was inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim based on six pillars: sustainability, well-being, creativity, respect, confidence and courtesy.

The programme featured 10 panellists from various backgrounds with three main slots included, namely, the Prosperous Malaysia Madani Talk, three panel presentations, and the Malaysia Madani Forum.
