MB: T’ganu to use Federal’s National Day logo, theme

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar

PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu state government will be using the National Day logo and theme of the Federal Government and not that which was suggested by the Perikatan Nasional Youth wing, says Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

In a short text to The Star yesterday, Ahmad Samsuri said that as the head of the state government, he decided to keep to the logo and theme of “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” and not the one unveiled by the Perikatan Youth information chief on Saturday.

“For us in Terengganu, we will be using the same logo as the Federal (Government),” texted Ahmad Samsuri, not elaborating the reason for the decision.

He said that state National Day celebrations are decided by the state mentri besar or chief minister and the state excos, not by the Federal Government in Putrajaya.

Yesterday, Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the Perikatan state has no problems with the logo from Putrajaya but declined the “Malaysia Madani” phrase in the theme.

Meanwhile, Perikatan Youth information chief and PAS Youth head Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who unveiled the alternative logo and theme, said he is not the one politicising National Day, as alleged by Cabinet ministers.

“It is the Federal Government which used the words ‘Madani’, ‘Perpaduan’ and ‘Harapan’ in its theme. These are words the ruling parties used during campaigning for the recent state polls and have political connotations.

“Why not use words that are more neutral? Our theme does not use the words ‘Bersih’ and ‘Stabil’, as these were words we used during our political campaign.”

Perikatan Youth launched a National Day logo of its own stating that the national logo was not inclusive enough and suggested the four Perikatan states – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis – use the alternative logo and theme for state celebrations.
