PETALING JAYA: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil is considering suing those who defamed him with allegations that he gave a political speech in a mosque.
“I did not speak about political issues or the state polls,” said Fahmi when met by reporters after an event in Putrajaya on Tuesday (Aug 1).
According to Fahmi, he had been invited to the mosque to speak about the recent controversial incident involving British band The 1975 during a concert at the Sepang International Circuit on July 21.
Meanwhile, Fahmi also said he was ready to cooperate with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), which is currently probing the matter.
“For now, I have not checked (whether or not I received a call from Jais). But God willing, if I’m called (for questioning), I will come forward," Fahmi said.
On Monday, it was reported that Jais is currently investigating allegations under Section 12 of the Syariah Criminal Law Enactment 1997 that a political speech was given in a mosque.
Recently, a Facebook posting had made the rounds on social media, claiming that Fahmi spoke about political issues in a mosque.
However, Fahmi had explained that he was merely speaking about a recent controversy involving The 1975 where its frontman Matty Healy slammed Malaysia’s LGBT laws and kissed his male bandmate Ross MacDonald on stage during the concert.
