Former Negri MB’s son and wife to stand for Barisan in Bagan Pinang, Juasseh

KUALA PILAH: It’s a family affair in Bagan Pinang and Juasseh, Negri Sembilan, where the son and wife of the state’s former mentri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad are contesting for Barisan Nasional.

Mohd Najib Mohd Isa will be standing in Bagan Pinang while Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid will be in Juasseh, staging a comeback after a lengthy break. Both are involved in straight fights against Perikatan Nasional candidates. Mohd Najib, 44, said he is confident of helping the coalition retain the seat due to Barisan’s track record.

“We have fought for the voters and enlightened them on state assembly matters. My manifesto is primarily based on collecting data and feedback from the people, ensuring that it aligns with their desires and needs,” the Port Dickson Umno deputy chief told reporters after filing his nomination papers at Dewan Politeknik Port Dickson yesterday.

Accompanying Mohd Najib were his father Mohd Isa as well as Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

In Juasseh, Bibi Sharliza, 53, was in high spirits as she arrived at the nomination centre.

“We have to win big as I did when I contested in Paroi. To our machinery, do as much as possible, I will come with you,” she told a crowd of Barisan supporters after submitting her nomination papers at Dewan Hadhari in Juasseh.

Also present to show support was Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Bibi Sharliza was the Paroi assemblyman from 2004 to 2008 and is making a political comeback after a 15-year hiatus.

Barisan currently holds both the Bagan Pinang and Juasseh seats.

The coalition won with a majority of 1,935 votes in Bagan Pinang while inching to victory in Juasseh with a razor-thin majority of 692 during the previous state polls.
