Mosar unit rescues injured climber in Mt Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: A 44-year-old climber who sprained his right ankle at Mount Kinabalu, Kundasang, was carried down safely by rescuers on Friday (July 28).

The Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) unit under the Fire and Rescue Department initially received the report at 8.40am, regarding the injured climber at KM7.1 at Sayat-Sayat Point at the mountain.

“The Mosar team decided to bring the victim to Panalaban substation first to get early treatment, before bringing him down to Timpohon gate (mountain entrance) using a stretcher.

“Also assisting were three mountain guides and one Sabah Parks employee.

“Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, the victim was sent to the Ranau district hospital by the emergency responders for further treatment,” said the department spokesman, adding that the operation ended at 3.58pm.
