PETALING JAYA: A total of 15 police reports have been lodged in connection with damaged political flags and banners, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
The Selangor police chief said the reports were lodged in various locations, including five in Kuala Selangor, two in Subang Jaya and one in North Klang.
"We opened six investigation papers under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and Section 435 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by fire.
"We urge all parties and their supporters not to take extreme measures during the state elections as stern action will be taken against those who commit criminal acts," he told a press conference after witnessing an election drill on Thursday (July 27).
Comm Hussein said a total of 27 hotspots and 56 flashpoints have been identified in Selangor for the elections.
"Hotspots are referred to areas where trouble occurred during the previous General Election due to various factors including tight competition between rival parties.
"Flashpoints are areas where there is a tendency for trouble to occur.
"Rest assured, the police are ready to take action against anyone who disturb the peace and attempt to disrupt the election process," he said.
Comm Hussein said state police have more than sufficient numbers of officers and personnel for the elections.
"We will deploy 13,043 officers and personnel during the election to ensure the safety of all involved.
"It consists of 10,843 from Selangor police and the remaining 2,200 manpower from other divisions and formations," he said.
Comm Hussein said Selangor police have conducted various election drills to prepare for the elections.
"We are ready to be deployed during nomination, campaign period and polling day for the elections.
"We will ensure the safety of everyone involved, especially voters. If any party dares to create trouble, we will take action to the fullest extent of the laws," he said.
