Yeoh named PPC chairman while Syn Tze follows in dad’s footsteps

GEORGE TOWN: In a surprise move, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke named former Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin as the new Penang Port Commission (PPC) chairman.

“We have agreed to give Yeoh a new task as PPC chairman, and he will also be nominated for an MP seat in the 16th General Election,” he said.

Yeoh said he was grateful for the appointment and would give his best to develop the port.

“PPC is one of the most important components and integral part of the Penang economy, and I will use my expertise as a former executive councillor to perform my new job,” he said.

Yeoh was the state tourism and creative economy committee chairman.

He is being replaced in the Paya Terubong state seat by former Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.

Present at the event was Sungai Puyu DAP strongman Phee Boon Poh who said he was happy that his daughter would be continuing the years of party and community work he had started four decades ago.

“Any father would be happy to see his daughter carrying the mantle after him, and I am no exception,” said Phee after Phee Syn Tze, 38, was named as a candidate for the Sungai Puyu state constituency seat in the coming election.

“She has learned the ropes well in serving the party and the community,” said 73-year-old Phee.

On not making the list of candidates this time, Phee said no one was indispensable, and the party needed new blood to move forward continuously.
