Road leading to Ayer Itam dam temporarily closed following freak storm


GEORGE TOWN: The road leading to the Ayer Itam dam will be temporarily closed following a freak storm that uprooted trees early Saturday (July 22).

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP), in a notice posted in its Facebook page, said the reason for the temporary closure was for cleaning and repair works involving Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s electrical cables which were damaged by the incident.

The closure will be from Saturday (July 22) until a date that will be informed later.

PBAPP said it will update any latest information on its Facebook page.

It said members of the public can contact PBAPP’s 24-hour call centre at 04-255 8255.

In the wee hours on Saturday, several trees were uprooted and roofs of stalls were blown off in Bayan Lepas and Batu Maung after the storm.
