Search ops continue for missing nine crew members off Pulau Burung


SIBU: Search operations continue for nine crew members who are feared drowned after their cargo ship capsized and sank in the waters near Pulau Burung in Sebuyau.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said the crew members from MV Tung Sung comprising four Malaysians, four Myanmarese and one Indonesian were still unaccounted for as of 2.45pm Friday (July 21).

Sarawak Maritime director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus confirmed the incident.

Maritime assets, including the Kilat boat and the Royal Malaysia Police's air assets, had been deployed to the area to conduct search operations.

The distress call from the cargo ship's owner was received by the state Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) around 9.40am on Thursday (July 20).
