Cleaner finds foetus dumped in Inanam apartment rubbish trap

KOTA KINABALU: A cleaner on her daily rounds at a residential area in Inanam near here found a foetus which she initially mistook for a doll.

The discovery was made at around 9.30am Monday (July 17) as the woman was preparing to clear the rubbish trap of the City Apartment block, said Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah.

“At first, she saw what she thought was a doll but when she pulled up the trap, she saw that it was a foetus,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 18).

He said the cleaner informed her superior and a police report was lodged.

Policemen soon arrived at the scene with a team from the Likas Women and Children’s Hospital.

It is believed the foetus, which measured 18cm and had yet to develop fully, was male.

ACP Zaidi said the foetus was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital forensics Unit for a post-mortem.

Anyone with information should contact Insp Hatikah Ahmad at 016-8337243 to facilitate investigations for concealing the birth of a child by disposing its body, he said.
