JOHOR BARU: With a hulk-like figure, fireman Ahmad Syahir Din Osman has literally proven to be a strong man within the Johor Fire and Rescue Department.

The 28-year-old fireman, who hails from Melaka, recently won the Singapore’s Strongest 2023 competition held on June 17.

Ahmad Syahir beat other competitors from Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong to win the 105kg category in the strongman competition.

With the victory in his maiden international competition, the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department picked him to be part of their 34-member contingent for the World Police and Firefighter Games 2023, which would be held in Canada between July 26 and Aug 6.

“I am really looking forward to it and it’s an honour for me to represent Malaysian firefighters in a world event where I will be going against other top firefighters and policemen from many countries.

“Besides me, there will be two other firemen, one from Sabah and the other from Terengganu, who would take part in the powerlifting event during the games,” he said, adding that he would be taking part in the under 93kg category.

Ahmad Syahir said he has set a personal target of winning the category or at least be on the podium.

“This is the first time that I will be representing the department at a world event and I want to perform really well for it. I expect the competition to be tough especially with competitors from major countries in Europe or even the United States of America.

“I do not have a coach to train me but I have been going to the gym about five days a week to prepare myself physically and mentally for the competition,” he added.

Ahmad Syahir, who is married with a two-year-old son, said as part of his training, he has been on a diet of eating six times a day.

“In terms of food, I do not have any dos or don’ts, but what is important is to control my sugar intake to make sure I will be in prime condition for the games,” he said.
