State polls: Umno to field new faces, says Zahid

BANGI: Umno will field new faces for the six state elections, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“For Barisan Nasional, we will field new candidates to signify our renewed spirit (for the upcoming elections,” said the coalition chairman and Umno president at the Mega Madani tour at Laman Niaga Bandar Baru Bangi here on Friday (July 7).

In the last 15th General Election, Ahmad Zahid had previously announced that Umno had a mix of old and new faces to contest under the Barisan coalition.

Ahmad Zahid also expressed thanks to Barisan component parties, MCA and MIC, for continuing to back Barisan in the upcoming six state polls.

“Even though our friends from MCA and MIC did not field any candidates from the respective parties, I respect the top leaders to remain with Barisan to show their support in the state polls,” he said.

On July 5, MCA and MIC announced that the two component parties will sit out the six state elections but will remain to play their roles to support the coalition.
