Motorist killed in crash with ice lorry


KLUANG: A motorist was killed on the spot in a collision with an ice lorry at Kem Batu Tiga, Jalan Mersing-Kluang near here on Wednesday (July 7).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said they received an emergency call at 2.50pm.

Kluang fire station senior officer II Jusoh Mohd Salleh said the incident involved a car driven by the 51-year-old male victim and the three-tonne ice lorry by driven a 27-year-old man.

“Firemen had to use special equipment to free the victim, who was trapped in his car," he said in a statement.

Jusoh said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a Health Ministry medical team while the lorry driver suffered injuries to his right leg.

He said the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action while the lorry driver was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The operation, involving eight firemen from the Kluang station, a Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) vehicle and an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle, ended at 3.34pm, he added.
