Liu calls it a day, quits DAP

KLANG: Incumbent Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu has finally quit DAP after being one of the party’s frontmen for almost four decades.

When contacted, Liu said he resigned from the DAP for the same reasons he voiced out seven months ago.

“I was not able to leave then as I did not want to forsake my voters by resigning as an assemblyman as well.

“The time is right for me to leave now as I am no longer an elected representative,” he said.

In a letter addressed to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke that was posted on Liu’s Facebook Timeline, Liu said he joined DAP back in 1982.

He said his resignation would take effect today.

In response to a question about what he intended to do next, Liu said he already had plans in mind.

“I am going to embark on a new journey; no more partisan politics for me,” he said.

Liu said even though he had quit the party, he would continue to support the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In October last year, the DAP central executive committee member posted a statement on his Facebook Timeline.

Then Liu said he was unhappy and disillusioned with some party leaders.

The party stalwart highlighted that some DAP leaders were smitten by power, position and perks when Pakatan Harapan was the Federal Government from 2018 to 2020.

“After tasting success in the 2018 general election, there is a remarkable change in DAP as noticed by the grassroots,” he said.
