Noh Omar says not contesting in upcoming state polls

SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor Barisan Nasional chief Tan Sri Noh Omar has confirmed that he will not be contesting in the upcoming state polls.

Sinar Harian reports that Noh has said that he has decided not to contest in the upcoming state elections to give opportunities to younger leaders.

However, the former Tanjung Karang MP has said that he will campaign for Perikatan in Selangor.

"I will actively campaign as I want to continue my struggle," said Noh, who was suspended from Umno for six years in January.

Speaking after attending the launch of the Perikatan Nasional election machinery at the Bangi Convention Centre on Saturday (June 17) night, the former entrepreneur development minister added that three-corner fights were detrimental to Barisan in Selangor.

"When I was the Selangor Umno chief, I advised the top leadership to ensure that there would be no three-cornered contests in the state between Barisan, Pakatan, and PAS as it would be detrimental to the party," said Noh.
