Constable arrested over attempted rape, says Perak police chief

IPOH: A police constable has been arrested for the attempted rape of a teenager at a petrol station along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the 23-year-old suspect, who is stationed in Batu Gajah, was arrested on Sunday (June 18) after the 19-year-old girl lodged a police report on Saturday (June 17).

Comm Mohd Yusri said the case is being investigated under Sections 376 and 511 of the Penal Code. (Section 376 concerns rape while Section 511 provides that whoever attempts a crime will face the same penalties as the offence itself.)

"A remand order has been obtained and the man will be remanded until June 22 to facilitate investigations," he said in a statement.

"The incident is believed to have occurred at about 2.30am on Saturday."

Comm Mohd Yusri said the police force would not compromise on any matters concerning the integrity and behaviour of its personnel.

"The investigation paper is being completed and will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor, with a recommendation to press charges.

"We would like to advise the public not to speculate on the case so that the investigation is not jeopardised," he added.
