Man charged over stabbing

Murder case: Chung being escorted into court.

KOTA KINABALU: A personal assistant who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend eight times at a shopping mall here was charged with murder at the Magistrate’s Court here.

However, no plea was taken from Chung King Fung@Haider Daniel Chung after the charge was read before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.

According to the charge sheet, Chung, 32, is alleged to have murdered Nurul Ain Silien, 22, at an ice cream parlour in Jesselton Mall here between noon and 12.20pm on May 29.

Prosecuting officer Insp Kelvan Elson Maik sought a new date for mention of the case, while awaiting the post-mortem report from the hospital along with the DNA test and forensics report from the Chemistry Department.

The court then fixed July 11 for the next mention of the case.

Lawyers Chin Teck Ming and Jul Hamri Jumhani represented Chung, who worked at an international construction company, while lawyer Nabila Norsahar held a watching brief for the victim’s family.

It was reported earlier that the accused had stabbed his former girlfriend eight times after the latter refused to continue their relationship.

The accused, however, called the police himself and waited until they arrived at the scene.

Kota Kinabalu Deputy OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris said the man had met up with the victim, who worked as a shop assistant at a shopping mall, to persuade her not to end their relationship.

However, Supt Kalsom said the victim rejected his pleas as she had made up her mind.

“Because of that, the suspect, who was enraged, stabbed her eight times, which led to her death,” she said.
