KOTA KINABALU: Tanjung Aru assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong says that he is staying firm with Parti Warisan even though his close aides have quit to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat).
"No, I am not leaving and I have conveyed my position to the party president (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) and my constituents," he said on Tuesday (June 6), brushing aside talk that he was leaving the party.
"Leaders and members come and go. But the struggle for Sabah remains," said the Warisan
vice-president and Kota Kinabalu division chief.
On June 4, Kota Kinabalu division deputy chairman Nicholas Chak led an exodus when most of the Warisan Kota Kinabalu committee leaders joined Gagasan Rakyat.
Chak, who is also a Warisan supreme council member, had met Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at his official residence to inform him of their decision.
Apart from Chak, the others include Datuk David Chong (Kota Kinabalu division vice chief) and Faridah Wasli (Kota Kinabalu division Women movement chief who is also Likas Barat branch chief).
Wong said that he remains unfazed by the exodus from his committee, adding that the division's grassroots remained intact and he has rebuilt the pro-tem committee with a mix of new faces and seasoned leaders.
"We have a promising pro-tem line up which will be proposed in the coming division EGM in line with the party's constitution and ROS procedure," added Wong.
