Fake cops in car chase

KULAI: Police are on the lookout for three men to help with investigations over a video showing a car chase on the North-South Expressway (NSE) heading north.

Acting Kulai OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said a report was lodged by a policeman at 1.52pm yesterday following the emergence of the 26-second video on Facebook.

“The video was uploaded by the user ‘Freeman Gan WT’, who claimed that he was chased by men posing as police while heading from Singapore to Genting Highlands.

“Our investigations revealed that the incident had occurred at KM41.5 of the NSE heading north near the Sedenak Toll,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The three suspects tried to stop the victim while holding a blue strobe light, similar to what the police have, Supt Yusof added.

“However, the victim has not lodged any police report regarding the incident.

“The police are on the lookout for the owner of the vehicle in the video to help with investigations,” he said of the case that is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

“Those with any information regarding the case are urged to call the Kulai district police headquarters hotline at 07-663 7222,” added Supt Yusof.

The video in question shows three men wearing masks and vests signalling a man to stop his vehicle.

At the time of writing, the video had recorded more than 980,000 views.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a family of three who went missing after going for a hike at Gunung Lambak here was found safe and unharmed.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Saiful Fadly Karim said the department received a distress call regarding the case at 8.24pm on Sunday.

“The family went missing after hiking in the forest.

“We deployed 10 personnel to the location and divided them into two groups,” he said.

The team had gone to the last location shared by the victims via WhatsApp, which is about 400m from the foot of the mountain, he added.

“All the victims were later found at 11.23pm, 500m from the Talula Hill Resort Basecamp,” he said, adding that the victims were handed over to the police after going through a health checkup.

The trio were identified as husband and wife Loh Yeok Keong, 56, and Lok Siew Koon, 53, and their nephew, Lok Hong Sheng, 12.
