Five arrested over heroin drug lab in Perak


IPOH: Police arrested four men in a house in Lumut, which has been transformed into a heroin drug laboratory.

Another 25-year-old man was nabbed in Pokok Assam in Taiping related to the case.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the men, aged between 23 and 52, were nabbed on May 23 at about 1.30pm at the house in Kg Bharu, which was turned into a drug processing and packaging area.

He said a team from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department made the arrest.

“Police confiscated 14.905g heroin worth RM199,727 during the raid.

“Also seized were equipment and chemicals used for the processing, and packaging purposes,” he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said all the five tested negative for drugs.

He said four of the suspects had previous criminal and drug related records.

“During the raid, a car was also confiscated.

“We believe the suspects became active in the drug trafficking activities since beginning of the year, while they started processing the drugs in early March.

“The drugs confiscated are believed for the local market that can be used by 22,400 drug addicts,” he said.

He added the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The suspects have been remanded until May 30.
