KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar is slated to attend an event to mark the end of Sabah's Kaamatan celebrations on May 31.

The month-long harvest festival celebrations culminate on May 30 and 31 at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Hongkod Koisaan hall in Penampang near here.

This was among the matters discussed when the KDCA central committee, led by its president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at his office in the state assembly building here on Tuesday (May 23).

At the meeting, Pairin also presented KDCA's development report to the Hajiji that included, among others, expansion and upgrading plans for the KDCA building and the setting up of the Huguan Siou Education and Charitable Foundation.

Also present were KDCA deputy presidents Datuk Seri Clarence Bongkos Malakun, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

The colourful Kaamatan (harvest) festival, a celebration of thanksgiving for a good harvest, kicked off in the Tuaran district on May 1.

The celebrations of the ethnic Kadazandusun, Murut and Rungus communities across the state include traditional music performances, dances and games in each district.

It will also see each district picking its own Unduk Ngadau (harvest queen) who will then compete for the state-level 2023 title, a much-anticipated event among Sabahans.
