Cops bust snatch theft ring in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men have been arrested in connection with a string of snatch thefts around Sentul and Wangsa Maju.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said police received a report from a 37-year-old woman who said she was robbed at Jalan Rimbunan Kepong at around 7.30pm on March 22.

"Based on increased snatch thefts, Sentul CID launched Ops Rentap to combat the crime.

"Based on intelligence gathered, we carried out a series of raids around the capital on May 10 which led to the arrest of three local men aged between 26 and 29," he told reporters on Monday (May 22).

He said they seized a motorcycle, eight mobile phones, two helmets and three handbags as well as assorted foreign currency.

"The syndicate was led by a 29-year-old suspect known as Wan Palo.

"They targeted pedestrians and motorcyclists," he said, adding that the suspects worked in groups.

He said the main suspect has been handed over to the Wangsa Maju police for further investigations while the other two suspects would be prosecution witnesses.

"We have linked nine cases in Sentul and Wangsa Maju to this group," he added.
