Trio commit armed robbery in revenge of domestic abuse

KUALA LUMPUR: An armed robbery here was actually an act of revenge after the suspect's family member had been beaten by the victim.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak, in a statement on Monday (May 22), said that on May 19, the 29-year-old victim was approached by two suspects at an apartment in Pandan Perdana.

One of the two suspects slashed his hand while the other stole his handphone and wallet.

"He required 11 stitches and was treated at the Ampang Hospital. On May 22 at around 4am, the police raided a flat in Jalan San Peng in Kuala Lumpur.

"Three suspects, a construction worker, a parking attendant and an unemployed man aged between 29 and 40 years old were arrested," he said, adding that a 19-year-old girl was also detained to assist investigations.

Investigations showed that the victim and suspects knew each other and that the suspects were relatives of the victim's girlfriend.

The victim had allegedly beaten his girlfriend, prompting the suspect to retaliate by robbing and attacking him.

The male suspects all tested positive for amphetamines and all had prior police records for criminal and drug-related offences.

"They have been remanded until May 27," he said.
