Four killed, one seriously injured in NSE crash near Tapah


IPOH: Four people, including two young children, were killed while another was seriously injured after the car they were in crashed into the back of a lorry at KM310 southbound of the North-South Expressway near Tapah.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Mohd Faisal Mohd Izham said medical personnel confirmed that the four victims had died on the spot during the accident at about 2am on Tuesday (May 16).

They were identified as Muhammad Azib Nasaruddin, 23, Siti Nur Aminah Nasaruddin, eight, Ahmad Uwais Qorni Nasaruddin, five and Azriyani Abdul Latif, 45.

"Muhammad Fawwaz Nasaruddin, seven, was seriously injured and sent to the Tapah Hospital for treatment by the Gopeng Emergency Medical Rescue Services.

"When we arrived, we found the car had crashed into the back of a lorry that was transporting soil," he said in a statement.

"The front bonnet had caught fire, and the four victims were found trapped in the vehicle," he added.

Mohd Faisal said the fire was put out by a passer-by using a fire extinguisher.

"The 23-year-old victim also suffered burns to his legs.

"The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the police before being sent to the Kampar Hospital for the next course of action," he said, adding that the operation ended at 4.25am.
