Sibu teens who went missing in Rajang River found drowned

SIBU: The bodies of two teenage boys who were feared drowned after going missing in the Rajang River have been found on Sunday (May 14) morning.

They were identified as Justin Siaw Yang Hao and Kong Wei Heng, both 15, who were last seen near the Pekan Durin Jetty here.

Sibu Malaysian Civil Defence Force chief Major (PA) Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Barudin said the bodies were found by the public within a 5km radius of each other.

"The first victim was found at 7.35am and the second at 8.50am.

"The bodies were identified by family members at the location and handed over to the police," he said in a statement.

At around 5pm on Friday (May 12), the two victims and another boy were playing in the river while their two female friends were sitting on the jetty.

The two victims were said to have been swept away by the current as the tide rose.

Their friend tried to help them and nearly drowned, but was saved by his sister.

The Sibu Fire and Rescue Department then mounted a search and rescue operation.
