16-year-old student swept away by strong current in Kajang


KAJANG: A 16-year-old student died after he was swept away by a strong current when he slipped into a drain in front of SMK Bandar Seri Putra.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received a report on the incident at about 4.40pm on Wednesday (June 24).

"Initial investigations found that the incident occurred at about 2.20pm when the teenager lost his footing and fell into the drain before being swept away by the strong current into a nearby water retention area.

"The victim was located by Fire and Rescue Department personnel at about 5.55pm, approximately 150m from where he fell.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 25).

The body was sent to Kajang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

"We have classified the case as a sudden death report (SDR)," he added.

ACP Naazron urged those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp Nor Farahin Mohd Yatim, at 017-398 7188 to assist in the probe.
