Penang cops seize RM18,000 worth of heroin, arrest one in drug bust

KEPALA BATAS: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate after seizing RM18,500 of heroin and arresting one suspect in Butterworth.

Acting North Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the suspect was detained by a team from the district police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

He said police conducted a raid in an area in Butterworth where they seized five packs of drugs, believed to be heroin, weighing 2,261.4g and worth about RM18,500 on May 2.

"The confiscated drugs can be used by 11,307 drug addicts," she said in a statement on Monday (May 8).

Supt Siti Nor Salawati said during the raid, police seized a car believed to belong to the suspect.

She said investigations found that the suspect had been active in trafficking the drug since April this year and it was meant for local distribution.

She said the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and a check found that he had a prior record in criminal and drug activities.

She said the suspect was remanded for seven days from May 3 to May 9 for investigations.

The case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
