KUALA LUMPUR: The government wants to bring back fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho to face justice as soon as possible despite facing a complicated process in its bid to do so.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said while the government had never confirmed Low's whereabouts, negotiations had been ongoing with several countries to speed up the process of repatriating Low, who was also known as Jho Low.
"It is negotiated between countries through diplomatic channels.
"That (bringing back Jho Low) has been our position and we have been very tough on that since day one," he told reporters at the Malaysian Red Crescent headquarters here on Friday (May 5).
Anwar added that the process to repatriate Jho Low is a complicated one that involves many countries and intelligence services such as Interpol.
He, however, said that countries that the government have been in touch with regarding Jho Low had been giving their support to Malaysia.
Earlier, Anwar had launched the Malaysian Red Crescent 75th anniversary and officiated the humanitarian organisation's national headquarters.
